Diabetes is a condition that decreases your body's ability to respond to insulin that leads to abnormal metabolism of carbohydrates and spiked blood sugar level. Excessive glucose content in the blood is known as high blood sugar or hyperglycemia. The increase in blood sugar in turn releases insulin from the pancreas into the blood. Diabetes is a metabolic disease characterized by high blood glucose (blood sugar), either because the insulin production is inadequate, or because the body's cells do not respond appropriately to the produced insulin, or in some cases, both.
Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (DM): It is an autoimmune disease where the individual’s body has destroyed the insulin producing cells in the pancreas. This give rise to increase in blood and glucose level in the body. The symptoms of Type 1 DM are frequent urination, thirst, and hunger, and weight loss.
Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus – This is seen in old age or obese people. In this situation, even though the body is producing insulin, its sensitivity is reduced to minimal. The symptoms are similar to Type 1 and in addition, also include fatigue, loss, slow healing from cuts, and wounds.
